The Germany international striker decided to swap German Bundesliga outfit, RB Leipzig, to join Lampard’s evolutionary Chelsea team and since then, he has hit the ground running by showing glimpses of why the London club splashed the cash on him in the summer.
In his first eight Premier League games for The Blues, Werner has scored four goals and registered one assist. His form has seen him displace last season’s talisman Tammy Abraham and become a regular fixture for Chelsea so far this current campaign.
The 24-year-old has also put in some impressive performances in the cup competitions for the west London club, having already scored four goals. He is currently proving himself worthy to be a permanent starter in Chelsea FC’s team.
Werner along with his Germany national teammates suffered a heavy 6-0 morale-daunting thrashing at the hands of Spain in the Nations League during the international break, but Lampard is looking past that.
Lampard has decided to not worry about what effect that result will have on Werner and Insists the former Leipzig striker has been impressive this term.
The Chelsea boss was speaking in an interview before The Blues’ match against Newcastle at St. James’ Park and defended Werner, saying there’s no way the striker should have been blamed individually for the result, insisting that it is a collective team effort, and result.
Lampard also said he has been really happy with Werner, impressed with his goalscoring abilities, and marveled at his personality.
Werner put in a fine performance against Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday, setting up fellow Striker Tammy Abraham as Chelsea scored their second goal in a 2-0 away win.
