Former Chelsea and Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Ballack has aired his opinion on the outcome of the clash between two of his old sides. Bayern Munich claimed a famous victory at Stamford Bridge, as they condemned Frank Lampard’s men to 3-0 defeat.
The former German international stated the 3-0 defeats for the Blues will stand as a learning process for Frank Lampard and his young squad.
Chelsea suffered a big defeat at Stamford Bridge at the hands of The Bravarian. The Blue showed resilience in the first half as they held the German champions at half time, but Serge Gnabry produced another masterpiece performance in London for the second time this season. He scored 4 goals against Tottenham in the group stage, a match the German Champions won 7-1. Gnabry scored twice again in Stamford Bridge and Lewandowski added the gloss to an already impressive scorelines.
Chelsea face an almost impossible task, as they will try to overcome the deficit when they travel for the return leg at Allianz Arena in three weeks time. The Blues will be without first team players for the return leg. Midfield anchor man, Jorginho and left back Marcos Alonso will not be available due to suspension making the task even more difficult.
Ballack has suggested the blues were unlucky, and they were exposed by the German champions in the round of 16 tie, with Mount one of the players he said was most unfortunate on the night. He stated that he was doing a on one against Alfonso Davies, and the pace of the Canadian was quite surreal.
He admitted the Blues should learn from the tie and try to prepare and build better for the future.
