Arsenal and Chelsea will consider moves for Ronald Araujo should the Barcelona centre-back fail to agree a new contract at Camp Nou, Express Sport understands. The 23-year-old Uruguayan has become a cornerstone of Xavi’s side since forcing his way into the first-team set-up under Ronald Koeman. Araujo has been one of only few shining lights during arguably the darkest period in Barcelona’s illustrious history.
Barcelona chiefs are keen to award the defender with a new bumper contract that reflects his value to his manager but so far, negotiations have struggled to bear fruit. Instead, the La Liga giants are now fearing they will lose their ball-playing centre-back on a free transfer. Talks are continuing between the two parties with Barca still hopeful they will find an agreement with Araujo and his representatives.
